*Rite Aid has annoucned the permanent closure of all of its remaining stores in the U.S. The company confirmed the move on Friday, marking the end of a brand that operated for more than sixty years in the pharmacy industry, NBC News reports.
“All Rite Aid stores have now closed. We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support,” the company said on its website, which still offers access to prescription and immunization records.

The chain’s downfall followed years of financial turmoil and restructuring efforts. Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy protection in May 2025, when it was operating about 1,250 stores—a steep decline from the 2,000 locations it maintained in 2023.
Rite Aid, once a major U.S. pharmacy chain, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2023, allowing it to reduce $2 billion in debt and close numerous stores. Despite emerging as a private company in 2024, it still held $2.5 billion in debt.
At its peak, Rite Aid oversaw a network of more than 4,900 pharmacies across the United States. The closures mark the final chapter for a once-dominant retailer that struggled to remain competitive amid shifting market dynamics and mounting financial pressures.
