*MTV’s “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” made history with the premiere of its 13th season on July 8, continuing its reign as the longest-running series in the franchise.
“The must-see reality juggernaut is back as the cast of industry hitmakers and fresh new faces share their personal stories while bringing to light the drama. Now more than ever, relationships are tested, friendships come and go…and everything isn’t always peachy,” per the synopsis. In an exclusive conversation, cast members Scrappy and Mendeecees Harris gave a raw look at what keeps them returning and what fans can expect from this season.
“We all know it’s money involved,” Scrappy said bluntly when asked why he continues to be part of the show. “And then I got my whole family on here… my whole family is prospering.” Beyond the financial aspect, he emphasized the broader influence they now have. “You’re just giving them something they can… feed off of, learn off of. I’m learning as I go through it as well.”
Mendeecees echoes the sentiment of inspiring others through his journey. “Just following my journey, seeing me mature, seeing my trials and tribulations… how my family expanded,” he said. “To inspire people and people tell me that they was inspired by seeing me get through certain things makes me want to keep going.”
Reflecting on his growth with his partner Yandy, Mendeecees said, “Me and Yandy had our first kid on this show… (fans) seen what we went through and how we challenged all the stuff that was in our way.”

As Season 13 unfolds, Mendeecees hints at escalating conflict and emotional intensity. “I feel like a lot of people dealing with a lot of accusations and people telling their side of the story… versus the way things are,” he explained. “This is like new territory. This is new grounds for me.”
Scrappy revealed his storyline also promises fireworks. “You’re going to see Daddy Scrapp as always, but they also going to see I ain’t playing with you, Scrapp,” he teased. “And as usual, I always have at least one baby mama trying to show out on me. The season ain’t going to be right if I don’t have one baby mama showing out on me. Or two.”
When it comes to protecting their families from the show’s chaos, both stars had strong boundaries. “Everything ain’t always what it seems,” Scrappy said. “I don’t take Love & Hip Hop Atlanta with me to the house… I leave it right there on that camera.”
He described the filming process as “really therapeutic” and emphasized that after filming, “I’m going home… I’m still a rapper… and I’m doing movies now.”
For Mendeecees, the experience of Season 13 exposed shifting alliances and blurred lines between real and fake relationships. “You think you fk with people you really don’t,” he stated. “As soon as that camera come on, they turn into a whole different person.” He added, “When it comes to integrity over money, everybody ain’t got it.”
On the topic of loyalty, Scrappy shared his personal definition. “Loyal is definitely just being the same person who you are, even when you in front of that person… or you ain’t in front of that person.” He highlighted the importance of peace of mind, saying, “Peace of mind can get you that money.”
The hip-hop star also noted that he navigates friendships carefully, explaining, “I maneuver through it because I got my own bullsh*t.”
Mendeecees had a different stance: “I don’t care for loyalty. I care for respect.” He made it clear, “You ain’t got to be loyal to me… we’re not in a marriage… just don’t disrespect me. The moment you disrespect me, you’re going to see a different side of me.”
The drama is undeniable this season, and according to Mendeecees, “This season is like a free fall.”
