*A congressional inquiry may soon involve an unexpected figure from reality television, as lawmakers express interest in speaking with Jen Shah about her time in prison alongside Ghislaine Maxwell. The outreach follows Shah’s recent public remarks describing her observations while incarcerated.
Shah, who appeared on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” was held at a federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, where Maxwell was also serving her sentence. Maxwell, convicted in 2021 for her role in a child sex trafficking operation tied to Jeffrey Epstein, remains a focal point of continued scrutiny.
According to Morning Honey, Rep. Robert Garcia revealed that contact has already been attempted. “Well, I never thought that my interest and love for the Real Housewives franchise and my work on Oversight would collide. But actually, we reached out to Jen Shah yesterday,” he said, noting that communication was initiated through a representative. “We actually want to talk to her,” Garcia added.
The California Democrat suggested Shah’s perspective could be valuable due to her proximity to Maxwell. “Look, at the end of the day, she is someone that’s interacted with Ghislaine Maxwell in that prison. She clearly has information about what Ghislaine Maxwell was saying to others, and we have not had access to folks in that prison that have been interacting with Ghislaine Maxwell. So we think that might have important information. And so if she is watching, please respond. We definitely want to talk. I think she’s got critical information.”
Shah recently spoke about what she described as unequal conditions inside the facility. She claimed Maxwell “was treated very well” and was “afforded things [in prison] that nobody else was afforded, like private workout sessions, special meals, bottled water,” per PEOPLE.
According to Shah, she observed some of these situations while assigned to work in recreation. “Everybody witnessed it, and I know that firsthand because I worked in [recreation] so I would have to clean things up,” she said, adding that she was sometimes asked to provide exercise equipment for Maxwell’s late-night use.
She also alleged that Maxwell did not follow the same procedures as other inmates, including the process for arranging legal calls. Despite those claims, Shah emphasized that she kept her distance, saying she had “limited interactions” with Maxwell during their time in custody.
Federal officials pushed back on the accusations, stating that all inmates are subject to the same rules and that any claims of misconduct are taken seriously and investigated. Meanwhile, Garcia indicated that efforts to connect with Shah are ongoing, with hopes she will agree to share what she knows.
