*Representative Jasmine Crockett has emerged as the frontrunner among likely Democratic voters for Texas’s 2026 U.S. Senate race, according to a recent poll.
As Newsweek reports, the survey, conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee from July 4-7, shows Crockett with 35% support, surpassing former Rep. Colin Allred at 20%, with Beto O’Rourke and Rep. Joaquin Castro tied at 13%. With 18% of voters undecided, the race remains fluid as the December filing deadline nears.
The 2026 Texas Senate race, targeting the seat held by Republican Sen. John Cornyn, is a critical battleground for both parties. Texas has long favored Republicans, resisting Democratic challenges from figures like O’Rourke and Allred. A Democratic victory could reshape the state’s political landscape and influence control of the Senate.
Crockett has not officially announced her Senate candidacy but is gaining national attention. In a June 3 letter declaring her bid for ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, she wrote, “Every hearing, every investigation, every public moment must serve the dual purpose of accountability and must demonstrate why a House Democratic majority is essential for America’s future.”
Recent violence has heightened Crockett’s concerns about her safety as a lawmaker. Following a June attack in Minnesota that killed a Democratic representative, his husband, and their dog, and injured another lawmaker, Crockett spoke candidly on ABC’s “The View.” “No, not at all,” she said when asked if she felt safe, adding, “The only people in the House that have protection, you get protection based upon your leadership post. That’s it.”

Crockett called for redirecting federal funds to enhance congressional security, criticizing spending on events like Trump’s “little birthday parade” for the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary.
“I’m just saying, can we reprioritize some of those dollars?” she urged. She also pointed to MAGA-driven hostility, noting, “So I did text a Republican that I consider to be a friend … and I said, ‘listen, your people need to fix this,’” highlighting fears shared even by some Republicans.
The poll, reported by the Daily Caller, surveyed 566 likely Democratic primary voters with a margin of error of ±3.03%. Crockett’s lead signals strong support, but with O’Rourke and Castro as potential contenders, the race could intensify as the primary approaches.
