
*Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared before U.S. House lawmakers in Chappaqua, New York on Thursday, firmly denying any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell’s criminal activities as she opened two days of closed-door depositions.
“I had no idea about their criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein,” Clinton said in a prepared opening statement that she posted publicly on social media ahead of her testimony.
Her appearance followed months of escalating tension between the Clintons’ legal team and the Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee. Lawmakers initially requested voluntary interviews, but negotiations quickly grew contentious. Clinton’s attorneys pushed back on the scope of the She referred to their pursuits as “fishing expeditions” and “political theater.” and suggested the oversight committee deposes Pres. Donald Trump for questioning.
Before her testimony Clinton also wrote in a statement, “”[Y]ou have compelled me to testify, fully aware that I have no knowledge that would assist your investigation. in order to distract attention from President Trump’s actions and cover them up despite legitimate calls for answers.”
At one point the hearing was paused when a photo from inside the room was leaked. Republican Congresswoman


Lauren Boebert sent a photo of Hillary Clinton inside the private session to conservative personality Benny Johnson. Boebert came to Johnson’s defense tweeting that he did nothing wrong by sharing it on socials.
Months earlier Clinton indicated she was willing to testify publicly to clear her name. That is exactly what the Republican congresswoman used as an excuse for rule breaking. “Hillary wanted it to be done LIVE on TV,” she wrote in a tweet.
As to why the deposition is not public, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) opted for a closed-door deposition to avoid the hearing becoming a spectacle.
Footage from the hearing is expected to be released later. Reporters are waiting outside the building to receive updates.
Subpoenas for both Mrs. Clinton and former Pres. Bill Clinton were issued in July of 2025. They had been resisting in one way or another since then.
Mr. Clinton will appear in a hearing today, Feb. 27.
