*Oscar winners and nominees Halle Berry and Djimon Hounsou are set to star in “Red Card,” an international thriller about human trafficking.
As Deadline reports, the story is set across multiple African locations and directed by Joel Souza, with a screenplay by “Bad Boys” creator George Gallo and Green Book writer Nick Vallelonga.
Based on true events, Hounsou stars as Max Elmi, a seasoned ranger committed to fighting poachers in Kenya. His path intersects with Dane Harris, a special agent working under FBI supervisor Amanda Bruckner, played by Berry. Together, they join forces with international authorities to dismantle a powerful trafficking ring. The stakes escalate when Max’s son, a gifted young soccer player, is kidnapped by a ruthless North African trafficking syndicate
“Red Card” marks Souza’s return to directing since “Rust,” the controversial Alec Baldwin film tragically marked by the fatal on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. During filming, a prop gun handled by Baldwin discharged a live round during a scene rehearsal, killing Hutchins and injuring Souza, who was struck in the shoulder.
“Red Card is a fantastic script, from writers who have created film classics, and Djimon is an actor of uncommon power and depth,” said Souza. “Together, we all look forward to telling a thrilling story we truly believe will grip audiences worldwide.”
Meanwhile, Berry is currently using her platform to destigmatize menopause.
The 58-year-old mother of two shared her struggles during a June 9 Bare It All women’s health panel alongside Christina Aguilera. The Hollywood icon said she was blindsided by menopause symptoms, particularly vaginal dryness, which she feared would end her sex life.
“I had no idea that I was in menopause at this time of my life,” she said, PEOPLE reports. “I was 54 years old, no doctor that I had had even mentioned the fact that I would enter into menopause. So I had this unrealistic idea that maybe I would — okay, don’t laugh — but maybe I would just skip it.”
Berry’s symptoms emerged as she began her relationship with partner Van Hunt, leading to fears of losing her femininity. “I was really afraid at that time that I would never enjoy that part of my femininity again and that I had lost that,” she admitted. “I finally found my person and now the worst joke in the world happened to me.”
Initially misdiagnosed with herpes, Berry learned she was in perimenopause, a phase she discovered can start as early as the late 30s. “I realized after the fact that is a symptom of perimenopause,” she noted at a prior summit. This experience spurred Berry to research menopause, uncovering a lack of awareness among women and doctors.
She founded Respin Health and partnered with Joylux CEOs Colette Courtion and Dr. Sarah de la Torre, whose products, including a lubricating gel and pelvic floor device, restored her intimacy. Learn more about it here.
