*The Emmy Award-winning wine drama “Drops of God” returns to Apple TV on January 21 with a second season that pushes its central characters into uncharted emotional territory. Stars Fleur Geffrier and Tomohisa Yamashita sat down to discuss how their characters, Camille and Issei, navigate an impossible quest that even their legendary father could not complete.
In season two of the hit multilingual French-Japanese drama from Legendary Entertainment, Camille and Issei are thrust into their most perilous challenge yet: to uncover the origin of the world’s greatest wine, a mystery so profound that even their father, Alexandre Léger, could not solve it. What begins as a pursuit of legacy becomes a search for truth that spans continents and centuries, unearthing forgotten histories, hidden rivalries and secrets buried for generations.
For Yamashita’s character Issei, the season explores deeply personal terrain. When asked about the impossible challenge facing his character, Yamashita revealed the emotional core of Issei’s journey. “Impossible challenge for me is how Issei can forgive his dead ghost father’s existence. It was very difficult. But the theme of season two is forgiveness. Especially in the family situation, it’s the most difficult thing to do in life. But without forgiveness, none of them can be truly happy.”
The quest pushes both characters to their limits. According to the season synopsis, Camille and Issei must venture to the edges of the world and confront the darkest corners of themselves. For Geffrier, that journey takes Camille to unexpected places.
“Nobody can expect what’s gonna happen to her. I was quite astonished when I read the script,” Geffrier said. “I won’t tell anything because I think it’s very important to keep the surprise for the audience, but she thinks she’s okay. She thinks everything is okay. Her life is great. She’s in love. She’s got a new brother. And then she will realize little by little that she needs to work on her problems more. She needs to open her eyes and see really what’s going on. She will hit a big wall at one point. Like almost, she doesn’t recognize herself. It’s like the first season. She’s always asking this question, Who am I?”
The relationship between Camille and Issei evolved from rivalry to siblinghood during the first season of the series, which is inspired by the New York Times bestselling Japanese manga created and written by award-winning Tadashi Agi, with artwork by Shu Okimoto and published by KODANSHA Ltd. But season two tests that fragile bond in new ways.
When asked if anything threatens to break their connection, both actors pointed to their own characters as the potential source of conflict. “Yes. Her behavior,” Geffrier said simply. Yamashita agreed, adding, “Also, Issei’s behavior as well. It’s very childish, especially in the beginning. So that makes our relationship bad.”

Geffrier elaborated on the complexities of their sibling dynamic. “They’re struggling to be siblings. It’s not that easy. You need to build this love and this relationship.”
Yet beneath the surface tensions lies a deeper connection. “I think unconsciously they knew that they’re forever connected. That’s why we become very selfish and childish,” Yamashita observed.
For Issei, the quest takes on additional meaning when shocking revelations about his past come to light. “Issei actually discovers the shocking secret about his past. Which his not biological father never told him about it. And he got really upset. But also, he has to forgive his father and his mother because that’s the only way he can move on. He’s gradually trying to melt the trauma of himself. His mother and the father, not biological father, help to melt those problems,” Yamashita explained.
As the search pushes them further, Camille and Issei must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice. When asked what they hope viewers take away from Camille and Issei’s journey in season two, Geffrier emphasized the importance of active engagement in one’s own life. “You have to struggle and fight for what you love. You cannot rest and look at things happening and think it’s all gonna be okay. You need to be a part of it, an active part of your life. And I hope they will see that.”
Since its worldwide debut, “Drops of God” has received broad acclaim from critics and fans alike, quickly achieving a perfect 100% critics’ score and Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The stylish drama has been hailed as a hidden gem and praised as a taut, elegant, flat-out fun series that is shockingly mesmerizing and a thrill to watch.
The eight-episode second season premieres on Wednesday, January 21, 202,6 with the first episode, followed by one episode weekly until March 11, 2026, on Apple TV.
