*Tensions between 50 Cent and Dame Dash have resurfaced after Dash publicly criticized 50 Cent’s involvement in an upcoming documentary about Sean Combs.
According to Hot 97, in an Instagram post, Dash accused 50 of profiting from attacking another Black man, writing, “Never trust a Black man that will make a documentary tearing down another Black man for a white man… that’s nasty work.”
Netflix will premiere the four-part series, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” on December 2. Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Alexandria Stapleton, the documentary offers a comprehensive look at Combs’ life, career, and controversies.
Combs, 56, was recently convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution and sentenced to 50 months in prison. He was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to Fort Dix and is scheduled for release in 2028. The documentary traces Diddy’s rise through Bad Boy Entertainment, where he helped launch artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Danity Kane. However, former colleagues, childhood friends, and artists recount troubling aspects of Combs’ behavior, including incidents revealed in singer Casandra Ventura’s 2023 lawsuit against him.
Stapleton explained the cultural significance of the project: “Being a woman in the industry, and going through the #MeToo movement — watching giants in music and film go on trial, and to know what their outcomes were … When Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I just thought this could go a million different directions. I wondered how she had the confidence to go out there against a mogul like Sean Combs. As a filmmaker, I instantly knew it was a stress test of whether we’ve changed as a culture, as far as being able to process allegations like this in a fair way.”
“This isn’t just about the story of Sean Combs or the story of Cassie, or the story of any of the victims, or the allegations against him, or the trial. Ultimately, this story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal. I hope [this documentary] is a wake-up call for how we idolize people, and to understand that everybody is a human being,” she added.
“I’m grateful to everyone who came forward and trusted us with their stories, and proud to have Alexandria Stapleton as the director on the project to bring this important story to the screen,” 50 Cent said.
The series features exclusive interviews and never-before-seen material, examining both the accomplishments and darker sides of Combs’ empire.
“Sean Combs: The Reckoning” streams on Netflix starting December 2.
