*Netflix will premiere a new four-part documentary, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” on Dec. 2, offering an in-depth look at the life, career, and controversies surrounding the disgraced music mogul. The series is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and directed by Emmy Award–winning filmmaker Alexandria Stapleton.
Combs, 56, was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution last month and sentenced to 50 months in prison. He was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to Fort Dix and is currently scheduled for release in 2028. As we reported earlier, his prison experience has already included dangerous incidents. Charlucci Finney, a longtime friend, told the Daily Mail that Diddy “woke up with a knife to his throat,” emphasizing the risks faced by those convicted of sex-related crimes in prison.
Per Netflix’s Tudum, Combs rose quickly in the music industry through Bad Boy Entertainment. He played a pivotal role in launching the careers of artists such as The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Danity Kane. But as described by former associates, childhood friends, employees, and artists, darker aspects of Combs’ ambitions have surfaced, which were exposed in singer Casandra Ventura’s 2023 lawsuit against him.

“Being a woman in the industry, and going through the #MeToo movement — watching giants in music and film go on trial, and to know what their outcomes were … When Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I just thought this could go a million different directions,” says director Alexandria Stapleton. “I wondered how she had the confidence to go out there against a mogul like Sean Combs. As a filmmaker, I instantly knew it was a stress test of whether we’ve changed as a culture, as far as being able to process allegations like this in a fair way.
“This isn’t just about the story of Sean Combs or the story of Cassie, or the story of any of the victims, or the allegations against him, or the trial. Ultimately, this story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal. I hope [this documentary] is a wake-up call for how we idolize people, and to understand that everybody is a human being,” Stapleton adds.
“I’m grateful to everyone who came forward and trusted us with their stories, and proud to have Alexandria Stapleton as the director on the project to bring this important story to the screen,” 50 Cent said.
Through exclusive interviews with those formerly in Combs’ orbit and never-before-seen materials, the documentary explores both the successes and the darker side of Diddy’s empire.
