Viral Cinnabon video sparks outrage — and conspiracy claims
*First came the racist meltdown. Then came the fundraiser. And now? Claims the video was edited to frame the employee. This past Friday (12-05-25), a white Cinnabon worker in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, was filmed mocking a Black Somali Muslim woman’s hijab as a “witchcraft bandana,” dropping the N-word multiple times, and declaring, “I am racist, and I’ll say it to the whole entire world.”
The video went viral on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), racking up millions of views. Cinnabon corporate responded by swiftly firing the worker, identified in fundraising pages as Crystal Wilsey.
But wait! Now, her supporters are pushing a different narrative: that the couple baited her and that the viral clip was selectively edited. So, let’s roll out the facts.
No unedited video has surfaced — just the same viral clip
Wilsey’s defenders, particularly on right-wing platforms like GiveSendGo, claim the Somali couple provoked her first, verbally harassing and filming her to start drama. Their main talking point? That the shared video is “edited” and leaves out context.
One problem: no “unedited” footage exists. As of this posting, no independent source has released a longer video (that shows the ‘context’ that supporters are claiming). All roads lead back to the same 90-second clip, which starts with Wilsey already mocking the hijab and immediately escalating to racist language and slurs.
Local and national media reports confirm the couple only began filming after she made derogatory comments. Yes, the couple responds with name-calling — but that happens after Wilsey’s verbal assault is already in full swing. No “gotcha” moment for the defense so far.
Inside the clip: Racist slurs, hijab hate, and full-on self-destruction
The video shows Wilsey proudly flipping off the customers, laughing, calling the woman’s religious headscarf “witchcraft,” and shamelessly spouting the N-word multiple times. Then she hits her final boss level: “I am racist, and I’ll say it to the whole entire world.”
The couple, stunned but composed, warns her she’s “ruining her life” and tells her she’ll be fired. Spoiler alert: she was.
Cinnabon responds faster than their buns bake
By the next day, Cinnabon had confirmed the firing in a corporate statement, making it very clear they wanted no crumbs left behind:
“The former employee was immediately terminated by the franchise owner. Their actions do not reflect our values or the welcoming experience every guest deserves.”
The company said it’s committed to treating all guests with respect. Translation: please keep buying our gooey sugar spirals and pretend this never happened.
Protests, press, and dueling fundraisers follow
Media outlets like ABC News, The Grio, TMZ, People, and local Wisconsin stations covered the incident. Protests broke out outside Bay Park Square Mall. A GoFundMe was launched to support the targeted couple. But most of the financial momentum? It’s going to Wilsey.
Her supporters created a GiveSendGo campaign called “Stand With Crystal,” raising over $65,000 as of this posting — with a goal of $109,110 (sure). The fundraiser page frames her as the victim of “leftist harassment,” echoing unsupported claims of baiting and entrapment.

Reality check: What the evidence actually shows
Despite the claims, there’s no public proof of baiting, editing trickery, or hidden footage. No additional angles. No behind-the-scenes leaks. Just the same original video — and the consistency of mainstream reporting that Wilsey initiated the confrontation before filming began.
Legal experts note that even if provocation had occurred, Wilsey’s use of racial slurs and public declarations of being racist would still violate workplace standards — and justify termination.
Wider tensions under the frosting
This all comes amid rising national hostility toward Somali communities and ongoing debates about Islamophobia, immigration, and “free speech.” Wisconsin’s Somali population has grown in recent years, and community leaders report an uptick in harassment and hate incidents.
The Cinnabon fiasco isn’t just a viral clip — it’s a snapshot of what happens when casual hate, social media, and cinnamon rolls collide. And while one side rakes in donations, the other’s still waiting for people to stop blaming the victims for pressing record.
