*Soft-serve ice cream cones dipped in melted butter are taking the dessert world by storm.
A post from Stew Leonard’s featuring its butter-dipped vanilla soft serve has gone viral. The chain described the treat on Facebook as the “famous BUTTER CONE,” featuring soft-serve ice cream dipped in butter and topped with a sprinkle of salt. The process forms a thin, crunchy butter shell around the ice cream, creating a sweet-and-salty experience.
Stew Leonard’s, known for its grocery stores in Yonkers, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Long Island, said the cones will remain available at all eight locations as long as customer demand continues.

The butter-dipped trend isn’t limited to Stew Leonard’s. In New York City, Dominique Ansel’s bakery, Papa D’Amour, offered a French-butter-dipped cone made with organic A2 milk vanilla soft serve. The ice cream was coated in a thin shell of Isigny Ste. Mère butter and sprinkled with fleur de sel, with a mochi surprise at the bottom of the waffle cone. The offering was scheduled to end in November, but it added to the growing fascination with butter-coated ice cream.
Social media has featured multiple variations of the trend. Videos have shown cones dipped in brown butter, where the butter is caramelized for added flavor, and even peanut butter-dipped cones.
With so many interpretations, butter-dipped cones have become an irresistible curiosity for dessert lovers.
