*Tyra Banks is set to bring her innovative dessert, Hot Mama, to New York this winter, following a brief but buzzworthy debut at her Smize & Dream ice cream shop in Sydney for just one week in late September.
According to Business Insider, the warm, sippable treat has already captured attention online, though many fans remain puzzled about what “hot ice cream” actually entails. The Smize & Dream team has kept the recipe for Hot Mama under wraps, fueling curiosity among dessert enthusiasts.
“We love that you’re curious… that’s kind of the point,” a spokesperson told Business Insider. They clarified that Hot Mama is neither melted ice cream, hot chocolate, nor a latte. Instead, they describe it as “ice cream reimagined — churned, simmered, and perfected to be served warm and sippable, poured into a couture 3D cup, and finished with signature SMiZE flair.”
Developing Hot Mama was no small feat, requiring over a year of experimentation to perfect its unique texture and flavor. “At first, we tried just heating standard ice cream bases, but they turned sticky, gloopy, or too thin,” Banks said in a press release. The team eventually achieved “the perfect viscosity — not too thick, not too thin — where hot ice cream still felt as dreamy as cold ice cream.” This involved reworking traditional ice cream bases and “rebalancing fats, sugars, and stabilizers to maintain that ‘melt-on-the-tongue’ sensation.”
The Smize & Dream team noted in the pess release that Hot Mama is “the liquid version of your favorite ice cream scoop.”
“It’s a culinary contradiction that shouldn’t make sense, but somehow, deliciously does,” the added. One TikTok user described it as “thicker than milk, but not as thick as, like, a cream consistency,” likening it to “a milkshake in the microwave and then drink that — and it wasn’t gross.”
The buzz around Hot Mama continues to grow as New Yorkers await its arrival, with fans eager to see how this innovative treat will be received in the Big Apple.
