*In the world of romantic comedies, first dates are often filled with a mix of excitement and nerves, but in “Drop,” director Christopher Landon flips that narrative into a heart-stopping thriller. Known for his work on the “Happy Death Day” films, Landon delivers a unique whodunnit where every moment is steeped in tension and suspicion. Produced by Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, “Drop” takes the familiar premise of a dinner date and turns it into a chilling game of life or death.
“Drop” centers on Violet (Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy), a widowed mother who is nervously navigating her first date in years. Her date, Henry (Brandon Sklenar), is unexpectedly charming, setting the stage for what could be a romantic evening. However, Violet’s anticipation soon turns to horror as she receives a series of disturbing, anonymous messages on her phone. What begins as a minor annoyance escalates into a terrifying ultimatum: follow the instructions, or her son and sister will die.
The tension rises when Violet is told that the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras is watching her every move. The tormentor’s final command is chilling—she must kill Henry to save her family. In a race against time, Violet must figure out who is behind the threats and how far she is willing to go to protect the ones she loves.
The cast of “Drop” includes a talented ensemble of actors. In addition to Fahy, the film features Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) and newcomer Jacob Robinson as Violet’s sister and son, respectively. The supporting cast includes Reed Diamond (Moneyball), Gabrielle Ryan (Power Book IV: Force), Jeffery Self (Mack & Rita), Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project), and Travis Nelson (The Lake) as the restaurant staff and other diners, who are all potential suspects in this psychological game.

Landon, who is known for his unique spin on horror and thriller genres with hits like “Freaky.” “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones” and “We Have a Ghost” bring his signature blend of suspense and dark humor to “Drop”.
The screenplay is penned by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, who previously worked on Blumhouse’s “Truth or Dare” and “Fantasy Island.” Their writing, combined with Landon’s directorial expertise, ensures that every twist and turn in “Drop” keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
Produced by Jason Blum (known for Five Nights at Freddy’s and M3GAN) for Blumhouse, along with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller for Platinum Dunes, “Drop” promises to be another genre-defining thriller. Watch the trailer above. The movie arrives in theaters on April 11.
