*Today (02-23-26) at 5pm Pacific, in Beverly Hills, CA – a broad coalition including Project Islamic Hope, the National Action Network, and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), along with several Los Angeles civil rights organizations and nationally recognized attorney Bradley C. Gage, will be calling on California Attorney General Rob Bonta to immediately launch an independent investigation into the Beverly Hills Police Department over longstanding allegations of racism and racial profiling targeting African Americans.
The call for accountability follows the shutdown of an NBA All-Star Weekend event hosted by Jaylen Brown at a private residence in Beverly Hills.
The invitation-only gathering was held at the home of Jim Jannard, founder of Oakley, and was intended to promote Brown’s performance brand, 741Performance.
According to a report by The Boston Globe, city officials cited a rejected permit application connected to prior alleged violations at the residence.
Brown has publicly disputed that claim, stating the private gathering was not commercial or open to the public and therefore did not require a permit.

This incident comes amid broader legal action against the department. National civil rights attorney Ben Crump and co-counsel Bradley C. Gage have filed a $500 million class-action lawsuit against the Beverly Hills Police Department on behalf of alleged victims of racial profiling.
According to data cited in the lawsuit:
From August 2019 to August 2021, 1,088 Black individuals were arrested by the Beverly Hills Police Department, with only two resulting in convictions.
“90% of those arrested by the department’s Rodeo Drive Task Force were Black, despite African Americans making up approximately 1.5% of the Beverly Hills population These numbers demand urgent state-level intervention and independent oversight. Stated Attorney Bradley C.Gage.
“It’s no question that Jaylen Brown was humiliated and racially profiled by the Beverly Hills Police. We’re determined to stand up and fight for our brother, especially during this holy month of Ramadan,” said Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope.

The National Action Network, founded by Rev. Al Sharpton, also voiced strong support.
“We stand firmly with Jaylen Brown and all victims of injustice,”
“In the spirit of Rev. Jesse Jackson, we are demanding accountability. If Rev. Jackson were still with us, he would be front and center calling out these racist attacks against Black people.” said Jonathan Moseley, Western Regional Director of the National Action Network.
Organizers stated that this action is dedicated to Rev. Jackson’s lifelong struggle for justice and equal protection under the law.
