*New York Times bestselling author Terry McMillan will executive produce several original movies under the banner “Terry McMillan Presents” for Lifetime.

As Variety reports, her new movies will focus on the love and lives of African American women.

“Terry is an American treasure with her ability to capture the female experience in finding love and happiness,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and Head of Programming, A&E, Lifetime and LMN. “We are so excited to partner with her on these new movies that I know will also resonate with our viewers.”

“As women, we can be messy. We can be complicated. We can be so many things,” said McMillan. “Life is never tied up in a bow so it’s thrilling to be back in business with Lifetime which allows women to tell our own stories in an authentic way.”

McMillan is best known for her acclaimed novels and turned-hit films, “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” and “Waiting to Exhale.”

The films under “Terry McMillan Presents” will be announced later this year.

In 2020, it was announced that a television series was in the works based on McMillan’s beloved novel “Waiting to Exhale.”

She shared the news on Twitter and revealed that Lee Daniels was tapped to produce the series.

“So, WAITING TO EXHALE is going to be a TV series. Produced by Lee Daniels. Attica Locke and Tembi Locke are writing. Anthony Hemingway will direct. I lucked out,” she tweeted at the time.

The book follows four close friends dealing with love, motherhood, and career. The 1995 film starred Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Lela Rochon, and the late-great Whitney Houston.
