*Disney’s “Moana 2” is almost here!
This time she’s back with more adventure, more culture, and more friends.
Since the original release in 2016, the Disney animation team of directors, writers and Oceanic Cultural Trust members have been hard at work. The original cast returns, starring Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson with a host of others who made the film an international blockbuster.
Disney invited a day for media members to embark on an exciting adventure at their Burbank studios to participate in all things “Moana 2.” From drawing a miniature Maui (Johnson’s character), and learning about the sounds added from the foley artist. To voicing a character from a scene in the movie and enjoying a serenade from the film’s singers and songwriters, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.
EUR had a conversation with directors Dana Ledoux Miller, Jason Hand and David Derrick Jr. The goal was to find out more about the vision of “Moana 2”. Eight years after it’s original release, they opened up about going bigger this time around.
Another behind-the-scenes aspect of such a big film is the culture of the island people and keeping the authenticity true. We spoke to members of the Oceanic Trust who were advisors to the animation.
“I hope everyone goes away with that joy, that fun. But also that beautiful sense of community that you feel from all of the island community,” said Derrick, Jr. about his final thoughts on what he wants to leave the audience with.
“Moana 2” comes to theaters November 27!
