*Malia Obama recently premiered her directorial debut, the short film “The Heart,”  at the Sundance Film Festival.

Obama is credited as Malia Ann on the comedy-drama that “follows a lonely man named Josh, portrayed by Tunde Adebimpe, as he grapples with the sudden loss of his mother, Anita, played by LaTonya Borsay. The plot takes an unexpected turn with Anita’s peculiar request in her will for her son to preserve her heart organ and care for it after her passing,” per blexmedia.com.

During a Q&A session at Sundance, Obama described the project as an “allegorical little poem story.”

You can watch “The Heart” from January 25 to 28 as part of Sundance’s short film program.

Donald Glover’s production company is reportedly behind “The Heart.”

In a 2023 interview with GQ, Glover said he told the daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama, “She will only get to do this once,” adding, “You’re Obama’s daughter. So if you make a bad film, it will follow you around.”

Fam Udeorji, a creative partner at Glover’s company Gilga, also told the publication, “Understanding somebody like Malia’s cachet means something. But we really wanted to make sure she could make what she wanted—even if it was a slow process.”

He added, “It’s more about diversity of thought than just, like, diversity for optics. You know what I mean?”

Malia made her television writing debut on Prime Video’s thriller series “Swarm,” which is also a Donald Glover production.

Series co-creator Janine Nabers told ET that Obama’s episode, titled “Girl, Bye,” is one of the “wildest” episodes this season.
