*This week, guest host Anthony Anderson took the reins of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and Lawd did he go in on the Republican National Convention (RNC)! If you missed it, no prob ’cause we got the deets and the video. Anderson wasted no time in bringing his brand of sharp humor and kicked off his monologue with a biting joke, dubbing the event “the White People’s Choice Awards,” setting the tone for a night of unabashed satire.
Anderson highlighted some of the RNC’s most bizarre moments, starting with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson‘s teleprompter malfunction.
“Oh, poor Mike walked off stage with his Johnson tucked between his legs. You know, is it bad when the Speaker of the House can’t speak?” Anderson quipped, drawing laughter from the audience.
The RNC is often a spectacle, and Anderson made sure to showcase some of its more humorous elements.
“They all had some fun though. More than anything, the RNC is a chance for the MAGA movement to really bust a move,” he noted before queuing up clips of convention attendees’ awkward dance moves. “It’s the ‘No Soul Train!’” Anderson exclaimed, emphasizing the “soul” in a playful homage to the iconic “Soul Train” TV series.
Next in Anderson’s comedic crosshairs was South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, whom he said “kissed more ass” than anyone else at the convention. After airing a clip of Scott’s speech, Anderson commented:
“Tim, Trump already picked his running mate. You don’t have to do this, bro.” The roasting continued with Anderson playing Scott’s declaration, “Attention large crowd of white people! America is not a racist country,” to which Anderson humorously responded, “Thanks, Uncle Tim or Tom, whichever you go by.”
The highlight of Anderson’s monologue was perhaps his take on former President Donald Trump’s appearance at the convention. Trump, who recently survived a shooting, appeared with a bandage over a bullet wound on his ear.
“He entered the convention like a heavyweight champ: With the swagger of Mike Tyson and the ear of Evander Holyfield,” Anderson joked. “You know, that’s the whitest square I’ve seen next to Trump since Mike Pence.”

His humor not only entertained but also offered a critical lens through which the audience could view the proceedings of the RNC. His portrayal of the convention attendees’ awkward attempts at dancing and his witty critiques of notable Republican figures ensured that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” viewers were treated to a memorable and satirical review of the week’s political happenings.
As Anderson’s stint as guest host continues, audiences can surely expect more sharp-witted observations and humorous jabs that provide both comic relief and thoughtful commentary on the current political climate.
