*Tina Turner admitted in an Instagram post that she should have taken better care of her kidneys.
The music icon died Wednesday after battling a “long illness.” Turner’s representatives confirmed to DailyMail.com that she died of natural causes.
As TMZ reports, the legendary singer opened up about her struggles with hypertension, high blood pressure, and kidney issues weeks before her passing.
In her March 9 IG post for International World Kidney Day, Turner wrote … “My kidneys are victims of my not realizing that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine. I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.”

According to TMZ, Turner was diagnosed with hypertension in 1978 and said she “didn’t care much about it” and “didn’t really try to control it.”
Turner’s kidneys lost 35% of their function after her 2009 stroke. She received a kidney transplant in 2017 from her second husband, Erwin Bach. The global superstar also battled cancer.
Turner said her body attempted to reject her kidney transplant, resulting in frequent hospitalizations.
On May 24, her team confirmed she passed away at her home in Switzerland.
The news of Turner’s death was shared on her Instagram account.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” the statement read. “Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
