*“The Best Man: The Final Chapters” has made streaming history after premiering in December on Peacock.
As Vibe reports, citing Nielsen, the series is “ranked at No. 5 in an early version of Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Originals chart for the Dec. 19-25 viewing period,” the outlet writes, noting that “the series was only available for four days” during that window.
Per a news release: “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” is Peacock’s biggest original launch to date. The show has accumulated more hours streamed than any other Peacock original through two weeks of availability. Currently ranked No. 5 by Nielsen to date since its release, “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” is the first Peacock original to crack Nielsen’s Top 10 list for original series in its debut week.
The series is currently the #1 streaming title among Black audiences per Nielsen over the last two weeks.
“The Best Man: The Final Chapters” is based on the eponymous Universal film franchise directed by Malcolm D. Lee. The series “catches up with the beloved cast as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance,” per the official synopsis.
“For me, I really felt like we owed it to the fans,” Lee said in an exclusive interview with EUR about why he wanted to turn the beloved film franchise into a series.
Lee said, “I really wanted to continue that story. We certainly could have left well enough alone, but I felt like, “why not?” Let’s figure out a way to make this happen.”
When asked if fans will be left satisfied with how the series closes out, Lee said, “it’s going to end on a note and it’ll be definitive. I will say that. I think it’s a fitting tribute to these characters and the franchise.”
