*Malcolm D. Lee created the classic “The Best Man” back in the ’90s and it is still as relevant today as it was then.

Premiering in 1999, the movie starring Terrence Howard, Nia Long, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan, Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Monica Calhoun, and Melissa De Sousa won over audiences’ hearts so much so, that 14 years later, the sequel, “The Best Man: Holiday” made its way to theaters in 2013, featuring the entire original cast.

The gang is back together for one more go-round with “The Best Man: The Final Chapters,” a new series now streaming on Peacock.

The series comes years after it was announced that there would be a third film titled “The Best Man: Wedding,” after Holiday left fans on a cliffhanger wondering who Quentin [played by Howard] was marrying. However, the film was placed on hold indefinitely due to the busy scheduling of its iconic cast. But today, that all changes.

“For me, I really felt like we owed it to the fans,” Lee said in an exclusive interview with EUR. “To answer the question of who Quentin was getting married to. We left them with a cliffhanger on the end of that movie. I really wanted to continue that story. We certainly could have left well enough alone, but I felt like, “why not?” Let’s figure out a way to make this happen.”

Audiences all around the world were left weeping in the theaters during “The Best Man: Holiday,” when the loving character Mia (played by Monica Calhoun), transitioned after battling a disease. When asked if Calhoun would make any appearances in dreams or flashbacks in the current series, Lee stated fans would have to tune in to find out.

“Well, you’ll have to tune in to see,” Lee said. “I don’t want to give anything away. But, you know, as we know, our loved ones, even when they pass, stay with us; in some form or fashion. Whether it’s a sign or a dream or what have you, they are around. Mia is certainly that kind of presence in Lance’s life.”

When asked if fans will be left satisfied with how the series closes out, Lee said, “it’s going to end on a note and it’ll be definitive. I will say that. I think it’s a fitting tribute to these characters and the franchise.”

Meanwhile, Lee himself is “gratified” to know he and his creative team were able to close out “The Best Man” story.

“I would say that you’re never completely satisfied,” Lee said. But gratified to know that, okay, we did something and we put it to bed. I think that I’m never- I’m very greedy when it comes to storytelling so I always want more. I always want to make sure that I’m giving everything that I wanted to give, on that.”

He continued, “I would even say the first two movies were like, “did I do everything?” Pretty much. So I would say the series is in that same category.”
