T.I. to Make Stand-Up Comedian Debut via ‘Comic View’ TV Reboot

*T.I. made his official debut as a stand-up comedian this past weekend via Kevin Hart’s “Comic View” reboot.

After a nine-year hiatus, Hart rebooted BET’s “Comic View” as part of a four-day weekend celebrating his 44th birthday in Las Vegas from July 6-9, Variety reports. 

According to The Root, the show was hosted by Mike Epps, and the episodes were taped in front of a live audience. The featured comedians included Tommy Davidson, Tacarra Williams, Tony T. Roberts, Bresha Webb, D.C. Young Fly, and rapper T.I.—who made his TV comedic standup debut.

It has not yet been announced when these performances will air on BET.

“I’m thrilled to partner with BET for the return of ‘Comic View’ as part of Hartbeat Weekend making this can’t-miss celebration of comedy, music and culture,” Hart said in a statement, Variety reports. “Having hosted ‘Comic View’ in the past, I understand first-hand the incredible platform this franchise offers for comedians to showcase their talents on a national stage and I’m excited to continue that tradition in Las Vegas.”

BET’s “Comic View” originally ran from 1992 to 2008, then returned with new episodes from 2012-14.

Last year, T.I. clapped back at comedian Godfrey after the comic veteran criticized the rapper’s comedy skills.

“Bruh, I’m not your opponent,” the hip-hop star said in an IG Live stream. “You been doing this and how long you been doing it and for somebody to come on after you headlining. Hey, bruh you know how many of these comedians there is out there rapping right now? You know how many comedians there is doing rap? I’ve been rapping since I was eight years old bruh. It took me… probably twenty years to god damn get where I wanted to be. You dig what I’m saying?”

T.I. told Godfrey that if he had taken a moment to watch his set, he would have heard him tell the crowd that he’s “not a comedian,” but “a superstar.”

“You said in your little interview is you said that he’s not a comedian and had you taken the time to come to the stage what you said that you would not do and you should not do, but I disagree, you would have heard in my set I said ‘I am not a comedian, I’m a superstar.’ There’s a difference.”

“What you are failing to do is recognize something, someone who could be an ally, someone who could be an asset, someone who could add value, and you misrepresenting that as opposition,” T.I. added.
