On January 4th, Fox will premiere its brand new reality series “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” with a two-hour premiere.

According to the network, the series is “the ultimate celebrity social experiment” and consists of 16 different stars that join the Special Forces. Participants include Basketball legend Dwight Howard, Jamie Lynn Spears, Montell Jordan, Kenya Moore, Mel B and more.

Howard tells EUR in an exclusive interview that being on the show helped with his transition to Taiwan.

“Going through that experience was like, man, I needed this,” Howard said. “I needed to be broken. I needed to feel all of this so it can help me in my next journey, wherever my journey was taking me and it took me here to Taiwan. It was so perfect that I went through what I went through.”

Viewers will witness each celebrity take on some of the “toughest” training exercises, demanded by ex-special forces operatives and directing staff agents members Rudy Reyes, Mark “Billy” Billingham, Jason “Foxy” Fox and Remi Adeleke.

Howard explained that each task was physically grueling.

“Getting set on fire,” Howard said. “Just thinking about what you have to go through mentally to tell yourself, ‘okay they’re about to light me on fire,’“.

He added, “Tear gas is the most intense. Not only does it hurt. It breaks your soul because it’s like pulling life out of you. Somebody asked me, ‘If God was coming back and God said you can go to Heaven right now if you go through the tear gas again,’ I said, ‘bruh, God gone have to wait ‘cause this tear gas hurts so bad.’ I do not want to do this tear gas no more.”

The toughest task was more mental than physical.

“The hardest thing I would say was writing a death letter to my children and to my family and friends,” Howard said. “Because I’m thinking about their reactions; their emotions of reading from their father or their or their son or their brother, not being alive no more. That was intense.”

While it was challenging to write the letter, Howard said it made him more “grateful.”

“Even though I’ve always had this state of gratitude,” he continued. “Knowing that these people who go over and fight- not just in America but any country, for the military or whatever force they’re in, knowing that they may not come home and they have to write this letter, and I had to do the same thing, it just broke me down.”

When asked what celebrity would do well on the show, Howard said Jimmy Butler would be a good fit.

“I don’t even know him personally,” Howard said. “I feel he would do great on this show. …Just from watching him play over the years. His character on the court. I feel like this would be a great show for him because he likes to push the limits of himself. He’s a fighter. He’s a warrior.”

His advice for someone going on the show in future seasons is, “You gotta have a strong mind,” Howard said. “You gotta be open-minded. Your will has to be strong.”

While Howard will be in Taiwan when the series premieres, he’s thinking about holding a watch party with his teammates.

“I was thinking about that,” Howard said. “Doing a watch party with my teammates. Even though a lot of them don’t really speak a lot of english. I wanted them to be able to see what I went through before coming out here to Taiwan. I think it will be great for them to see because- actually most of the guys here, it’s by law, they have to do I think 4 to 6 months with the military here at a certain age. One of my teammates, he just got back from serving his time there. I think that’s something that all of us can relate to. Because they have to do this, it’s by law; and I chose to do it. It’s just like two crazy worlds coming together.”
