*Sheila Johnson, CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, is among the bidders looking to acquire the ground lease for the Trump International Hotel Washington D.C.
With an estimated net worth of $800, the Virginia business leader is one of the country’s wealthiest Black women. Johnson also owns a stake in the Capitals, Wizards and Mystics, and she serves as president and managing partner of the WNBA team, per bisnow.com.Â
The outlet notes that the Trump International Hotel “is operated through a long-term ground lease with the federal government, a structure hotel experts have said could limit the potentially record-breaking price tag the hotel is expected to fetch,” writes BISNOW.Â

The Trump International Hotel hit the market in October, with JLL tapped to seek buyers, the report states.Â
In a phone call with the Washington Post, Johnson declined to dish about her interest in the Trump International Hotel.Â

Industry experts say the lease could sell for between $300 million and $350 million. Although that’s less than the $500 million the Trumps said they were seeking for the 263-room hotel, such projects typically include multiple investors. It is unclear if Johnson has any outside backing for her bid.
D.C. developer Brian Friedman submitted a bid but said Wednesday he is now out of the running. Another company, the Indian Hotels Company Limited, owner of the Taj hotel brand, confirmed to The Washington Post that it was interested in the project but said it has withdrawn, as well.
Meanwhile, despite events being postponed amid the CORVID-19 crisis, Johnson is still scheduled to speak March 31 at Bisnow’s Sports and Entertainment event, held at Audi Field.
