*Stevie Wonder’s 102.3 KJLH FM personality, Tammi Mac, proved that her radio talent extends far beyond the mic and onto the theatrical stage, as she picked up 3 top awards at the 25th annual Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP Theatre Awards ceremony at the Nate Holden Theatre, March 6th, 2016.

The actress and radio personality, won Best One Person show for her one woman stage production entitled, Bag Lady. She also won for Best Playwright and Best Producer for Bag Lady with her husband, Jackson Brown, who serves as CFO of their company, MacJack Productions.

“Because I’m on the radio, most people don’t realize that I moved to Los Angeles without a job and only the hopes of being a working actress. So it’s an honor to have the NAACP acknowledge my work as a thespian and a writer. It’s an awesome confirmation. It simply blows me away!”

The Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP branch holds the event every year to honor and award excellence in African American stage productions throughout Los Angeles.

Bag Lady was staged May of 2014 and received rave reviews from executives such as DeVon Franklin, John Singleton and Kim Wayans. The production is about a woman who realizes that her bad luck with men, has nothing at all to do with the “men” and everything to do with how badly she has been bruised in her past. The show reflects on some extremely dangerous moments in Mac’s own life, including a rendezvous with the mega rap group, NWA.

“A lot of people don’t see how hard Tammi Mac works outside of radio to build an acting career. She’s rehearsing between radio breaks, auditioning all morning until it’s time for our radio show and then getting coached at night after our show with her mentor Vanessa Bell Calloway. This chic is on a mission and she means it! I’m expecting her to go places, cause I’m gonna be right there with her.”

Mac’s play, Bag Lady was completely funded by Kickstarter, a crowd funding website, which helps to raise money for independent projects. Mac’s campaign raised over $25,000 in less than 45 days, 25% above her projected goal.

The additional funds were used to film a web-series of the same name, which is now on Mac’s You Tube Channel TammiMacTV. The web-series won a total of 9 L.A. WebFest awards, including, Best Drama Series and Best Writer.

The stage production, debuted at the former Stage 52 in Los Angeles and sold out 6 shows before opening night and an additional 7 shows were added and sold out as well, totaling 13 sold out performances at the 100 seat venue.

Mac, is half of the afternoon duo on L.A.’s, Stevie Wonder owned, Radiofree, 102.3 KJLH. She and her co-host Don Amiche bring the fun and funny every afternoon from 4-8pm, daily. The two have hosted the show for 5 years and have gained a massive following with African Americans and Hispanics in Los Angeles.

Mac, has just filmed for the pilot episode of THE INFAMOUS and has completed a short film with AFI student, Malcolm Washington. She may also be seen in the upcoming stage play, Heaven Bound opposite, Ledisi, Marla Gibbs and Kenny Lattimore May 7th, mothers day.
