*YG dropped his new album “The Gentleman’s Club” on June 19, and one track in particular has sparked widespread mockery online.
“Tiffany,” a song about a man who violently assaults a trans woman after she discloses her identity, has drawn swift mockery and sharp criticism across social media, with many questioning the rapper’s motives. X user @Barbfromthe6ix summed up a widely shared sentiment: “Why tf YG rapping about trans? That nigga trying to get streams by any means necessay.”
Another X user wrote, “He’s trying way too hard to be a rapper with deeper content instead of just being himself! Out here, sounding crazy!“ A third person noted, “…Cali niggas like rapping bout that type weird sh*t.” One critic said, “… this why rap is dying.”
The backlash extends beyond jokes about clout-chasing. The song follows a narrator named Chris who brings a woman named Tiffany home, then reacts with murderous rage when she reveals she is transgender. Trans listeners and allies were quick to call out the song’s central premise as a harmful myth.
TikTok creator @theehoodcinderalla went directly at the logic underpinning the story. “I got a question — and I know the answer but I want you to answer this — if all y’all can clock a trans woman, ‘clock her,’ why are so many of y’all getting ‘tricked’ by her?” she said. “I don’t know a trans girl who would do shit like this. It’s the fact that y’all came out with that lie and the lie stuck to the point y’all say that all trans girls be tricking and lying. How they lying if y’all can clock them?”
Trans YouTube creator Kat Blaque echoed that challenge, arguing the song reinforces a dangerous fantasy rather than any lived reality. “Misogyny makes men feel as if they can assault me,” Blaque said. “And if my body isn’t exactly what they imagine, they get to kill me and tell you that I tricked them — and that is a far more common reality than a trans woman tricking a guy.”
The track’s release during Pride Month has prompted some fans to claim that the timing was intended as LGBTQ propaganda. One person wrote on X, “Are people really falling for this psyop? A “real California blood” talking about some transphobia…. Not only was the song ass but someone is clearly tryna turn him into a Kendrick like and it’s not working.”
Another added, “Propaganda through rap music, this has been since the 80s. They used to promote killing and violence. Now it’s all this nonsense. Black folks need to wake up”.
