*Reality star Wendy Osefo has resigned from her teaching role at Wesleyan University as she and her husband, Edward Osefo, face multiple fraud charges.
The school confirmed on October 14. “Wendy Osefo is no longer an employee of Wesleyan University,” the college told Us Weekly, clarifying that she “resigned from her position.”
Osefo, known for her appearances on “Real Housewives of Potomac,” joined Wesleyan in the fall of 2024, teaching a course focused on reality television and social issues. A representative for the star emphasized, “Contrary to recent media reports, Dr. Wendy Osefo was not terminated from a faculty position at Wesleyan University. She formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university.”
The rep added, “Dr. Osefo made the voluntary decision to step down from her role. This decision was made independently and communicated directly to the university before any external reports surfaced.”
The resignation follows the recent arrest of Wendy and Edward in Westminster, Maryland, on October 9, with both facing 16 fraud-related charges. We reported earlier that Wendy was indicted for insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making false statements to police, per court documents. Edward faces similar charges, which could jeopardize his Washington, D.C., law license if he is convicted.
Authorities allege the couple fabricated a burglary at their home in April, claiming approximately 80 items, including jewelry, clothing, and luxury goods, were stolen with an estimated value of over $200,000. Investigators reported inconsistencies, including no signs of forced entry, no disturbed furniture, and no movement detected by the home’s security system. Emails purportedly show Edward telling his wife: “I’m trying to get the total to exceed $423,000 which is our policy maximum.”
Among the items reported missing was $4,500 for Wendy’s gold diamond anniversary band. Social media photos appeared to show her wearing the wedding band despite the claim that it had been stolen. Police recovered at least 15 items from the couple’s home during a search, while several others had already been returned to stores for full refunds before the supposed burglary.
Following their arrest, Wendy and Edward spent a night in jail before posting $50,000 bond each on Friday, October 10. Their representative stated, “Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits… They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues.”
The representative added, “The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court. At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.”
