*Air travelers navigating airport security may be surprised to learn that one grocery store staple faces virtually no limits at TSA checkpoints. While many everyday items are subject to strict size restrictions, rotisserie chickens can be brought through security and onto flights in carry-on bags.
According to The Mirror, the unusual policy gained attention after the Transportation Security Administration highlighted it in a post on X. The agency wrote: “Protein shakes? 3.4 oz or less. But rotisserie chickens??? As many as you can fit in your carry-on.”
One commenter joked: “Real ones marinate their chicken with protein shakes that way you get the best of both worlds.” Another user wrote: “Can I use this tweet as evidence when you all detain me for chickens?”

Questions about the rule prompted further clarification from the agency. In comments to The U.S. Sun, the TSA stated that “solid foods, like rotisserie chicken, are allowed in carry-on bags with no quantity limitations.”
The explanation extends beyond poultry. According to the agency, solid food items generally do not face the same restrictions as liquids and gels when passing through security screening. Various food products, including canned foods, gravy, hummus, jelly, maple syrup, peanut butter, salad dressing, and soups, may also be transported in carry-on luggage when applicable requirements are met.
Meanwhile, liquids and gels remain subject to TSA regulations that limit containers to 3.4 ounces. The renewed attention on the rule arrives as the agency continues sharing travel advice ahead of the busy summer vacation season.
