Trump Shows Graphic Video in Oval Office to Defend White Farmer Claims
During a tense Oval Office meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, former President Donald Trump played a four-minute video claiming to show evidence of violence against white farmers in South Africa. The video, which was later posted on X, featured inflammatory chants such as “kill the farmer” and visuals of alleged mass burial sites.
“These are burial sites right here … over a thousand of white farmers,” Trump said during the footage. “Each one of those white things you see are a cross.” Ramaphosa appeared skeptical, saying, “I’d like to know where that is. Because this I’ve never seen,” The Hill is reporting.
Trump Brings Receipts, Ramaphosa Brings Golfers
To defend his position, Trump presented articles and images he claimed supported the narrative that white South Africans are under threat. Meanwhile, Ramaphosa tried a different approach — appealing to Trump’s passion for golf. He brought South African golf legends Ernie Els and Retief Goosen to the meeting, both of whom are longtime friends of Trump.
“What a group of golfers South Africa’s had. There must be something in the water, right?” Trump joked, while the golfers spoke about their personal experiences and the importance of strong U.S.-South Africa ties. Els urged Trump to support cooperation between the two nations. “[It’s] very important for us to have your support and, you know, get the change we need,” he said.

Elon Musk and J.D. Vance Remain Silent
Despite the explosive nature of the meeting, Vice President J.D. Vance and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, both present in the room, remained notably quiet. Vance didn’t intervene, a stark contrast from his previous vocal presence during a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Musk, a South African native who has criticized the country’s land ownership laws in the past, stood silently behind Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Trump later pointed to printed articles on the table, saying, “These are articles over the last few days. Death of people. Death… white South Africans are fleeing because of the violence and racist laws.”
Trump Hints at Skipping G20 Over White Farmer Issue
Trump has previously threatened to skip the upcoming G20 Summit, hosted in South Africa, if concerns about white farmers are not addressed. During the meeting, he remained noncommittal about attending the global forum, stating, “Without the United States, I really believe it’s not very important.”
Ramaphosa urged Trump to reconsider and reminded him of their earlier call, where he invited Trump to visit South Africa. While both leaders agreed on the importance of the G20, Trump left his participation uncertain.
Qatari Jet Question Sparks Trump’s Ire
The tone of the meeting shifted again when NBC reporter Peter Alexander asked Trump about the controversial acceptance of a Qatari luxury jet for use as Air Force One. The question visibly irritated Trump, who shot back, “You’re a terrible reporter. You’re not smart enough… You ought to go back to your studio at NBC.”

Later, Ramaphosa referenced the jet in a light-hearted response to Trump’s concerns. “I am sorry I don’t have a plane to give you,” he joked. Trump responded, “I wish you did. I’d take it.”
Background on the “White Genocide” Debate
Trump and several conservative allies have long echoed claims that white South African farmers are the victims of government-endorsed violence and land seizure policies. In February, Trump signed an executive order halting foreign aid to South Africa over concerns that the government “radically disfavored landowners.”
South African officials and human rights groups have widely rejected these claims as exaggerated or misleading, accusing Trump of fueling racial division and misinformation. The chants and video footage cited by Trump are often taken out of context, critics argue.
Despite the backlash, Trump appears committed to highlighting the issue, using high-level diplomatic meetings and executive powers to push the controversial narrative forward. Whether this will influence U.S. foreign policy or Trump’s global standing remains to be seen.
