Trump Kennedy Center? Trump ‘Surprised’ as He Votes to Honor Himself
*A narcissist a-hole is gonna do what a narcissist a-hole does. Today (12-18-25), it was announced that the John F. Kennedy Center board voted to rename the venue the Trump Kennedy Center. The announcement came via White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on X—because nothing screams credibility like a tweet.
Donald Trump, who serves as board chairman after a 2025 restructuring that conveniently placed all his allies in charge, said he was “honored and surprised” by the decision. Much like someone throwing themselves a birthday party, then pretending not to know about the cake.
Allies on Board, Critics Silenced—Literally
The board vote was described as “unanimous” by the White House. But that may have something to do with Rep. Joyce Beatty‘s mic being mysteriously muted during the meeting. You can’t oppose what you can’t say, right?
The board, filled with Trump confidantes like Pam Bondi and Ric Grenell, voted to “honor” Trump’s role in the center’s renovation and financial reboot. Because nothing screams “selfless public service” like slapping your name on a memorial to another president.

Federal Law? Just a Suggestion, Apparently
The problem? The Kennedy Center was named in 1964 by federal law as a living memorial to JFK. That law specifically bars renaming or co-naming without congressional approval.
But hey, why let legality get in the way of legacy-building? Trump’s backers argue the change reflects his “rescue” of the center, even if that rescue began after he gutted the place artistically.
Kennedy Family Calls Out Trump’s Power Grab
Members of the Kennedy family were less than thrilled. Joe Kennedy III called it “illegal,” saying the center is “a living memorial to a fallen president,” not a branding opportunity.
Jack Schlossberg and Kerry Kennedy also slammed the move, pointing to the Trump administration’s history of undermining the arts and free expression. Past attempts to rename parts of the center after Melania Trump had already drawn the family’s ire.
Empty Seats, Canceled Shows, and a Silent Stage
Since Trump took over the Kennedy Center earlier in 2025, ticket sales have taken a nosedive. Reports show tens of thousands of unsold seats, with some performances playing to over 80% empty houses.
High-profile acts like the “Hamilton” tour pulled out, citing changes in programming and political interference. Even the National Symphony Orchestra has described morale as “worse than during the pandemic.”

Fundraising Wins vs. Cultural Wreckage
The Trump-appointed board boasts about hundreds of millions raised for renovations. But critics argue those funds came at the cost of the institution’s soul—and audience.
Programming has shifted away from so-called “woke” themes to more politically filtered content. The result? A cultural hub turned partisan prop, now bearing the name of a man who once called the arts “overrated.”
What Would JFK Think of Sharing the Marquee?
While Trump compares himself to Lincoln and now shares billing with JFK, historians and Kennedy family members say the move is pure ego. After all, JFK never tried to rename Mount Vernon after himself.
Even some conservatives are privately uneasy about the decision, fearing it sets a precedent for politically motivated takeovers of national memorials. But as always, the Trump brand comes first.
Legal Showdown Looms Over Trump Kennedy Center Name
The rename is already facing threats of lawsuits and congressional intervention. Lawmakers say the board had no authority to override federal law, and investigations may be next.
Until then, the signage may go up—but enforcement remains murky. Will the Trump Kennedy Center be official? Or just another unlicensed branding experiment with gold letters and bad acoustics? Stay tuned.
