*“The Chosen” is gearing up for one of its most pivotal chapters yet. Prime Video and 5&2 Studios have announced that Season 6 of the global hit series will premiere on November 15, 2026, marking the beginning of a dramatic retelling of the final hours of Jesus of Nazareth.
The six-episode season will launch with its first three episodes on premiere day, followed by weekly releases through December 6. In a unique move, the season’s conclusion will not stream immediately—instead, the finale will arrive as a standalone theatrical release in spring 2027.
According to the news release, season 6 focuses on the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, exploring the crucifixion through multiple perspectives. Religious leaders frame the moment as justice, Roman authorities see it as a means of maintaining order, while Jesus’ followers experience it as a devastating loss. At the center of it all is Jesus himself, portrayed as resolute and unwavering as events move toward the cross.
Creator and executive producer Dallas Jenkins emphasized that while many are familiar with the broad outline of this story, the deeper motivations and human experiences behind it are less widely understood.
“Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours,” said Jenkins. “We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well. We wrote and filmed all of it with this in mind.”
Jonathan Roumie returns in the lead role of Jesus, joined by an ensemble cast including Shahar Isaac as Peter, Paras Patel as Matthew, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, and Luke Dimyan as Judas. Since its debut, “The Chosen” has become a global phenomenon, drawing more than 300 million viewers worldwide. The series offers a character-driven portrayal of Jesus’ life, set against the backdrop of Roman-occupied first-century Israel.
The upcoming season is part of a broader expansion for the franchise. Prime Video secured streaming rights to the first five seasons, along with additional projects connected to the series, and will also carry the final two seasons. Season 6 will depict the crucifixion, while Season 7 is expected to focus on the resurrection—bringing the sweeping story to its planned conclusion.
