*Teyana Taylor is stepping into a powerful new role at one of the most celebrated gatherings in Black culture.
The Oscar-nominated actress, along with her creative collective The Aunties, has been tapped as chief curator for the 2026 Essence Festival of Culture — a position created specifically for Taylor that hands her significant influence over the direction of this summer’s event.
The festival runs July 3-5 at the Caesars Superdome and Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Through her curatorial role, Taylor will leave her imprint on the festival’s programming and overall creative identity, nola.com reports. Essence officials framed the appointment as an opportunity for the singer to infuse the event with her sensibility, one built around “Black culture, feminine power, and intentional storytelling.”

Taylor first graced the Essence stage as a performer in 2019 at the Superdome, and her return in this elevated capacity reflects how much her relationship with the festival has grown since then.
“ESSENCE has always been more than a festival, it is a reunion,” Taylor said in a news release. “It is the place where Black women see themselves reflected at full scale: in their joy, in their genius, and in their magic. I don’t take this role lightly, I’m a true Auntie! The one in your corner, cheering you on, telling you the truth with love, and making sure every room you walk into knows you belong there. That’s what I’m bringing to this programming.”
The performer lineup for the 2026 festival is already taking shape. Essence recently announced an opening wave of talent that includes Cardi B, Patti LaBelle, Brandy and Monica, Kehlani, and Latto.
