*DC Studios has officially lifted the curtain on “Superman,” unveiling the first official trailer for what promises to be a game-changing reimagining of the legendary superhero.
Slated to premiere in theaters across the U.S. on July 11, 2025, with an international rollout beginning July 9, this film marks the inaugural cinematic installment in the rebooted DC Universe under the direction of James Gunn. Known for his unique storytelling style blending heart, humor, and spectacle, Gunn not only directs “Superman” but also penned the screenplay, crafting a vision rooted in compassion and optimism.
“We just start right in the middle of the action,” Gunn explained in an interview with ComicBook. “Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman’s guts from the beginning, although they don’t know each other personally.”
Taking on the iconic cape is David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood), stepping into the dual role of Superman and his alter ego, Clark Kent. Opposite him, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) portrays the fearless journalist Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult (X-Men, Juror #2) plays arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. The cast is rounded out by a diverse lineup of stars, including Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell.

“Superman” is not an origin story. Instead, it thrusts audiences directly into the hero’s world at a time when he’s already established, setting the tone for DC Studios’ ambitious new slate of films and shows. Gunn’s vision breaks away from tradition by compressing the story into a tightly-paced narrative, grounded in emotional depth and moral clarity.
“There’s a lot of these things in this movie now that I’ve been making it for over a year that I think of as normal,” Gunn said, reflecting on the unconventional approach. “But now when you bring it up, I go, ‘Oh yeah, that’s pretty unusual.’”
Backed by producers Peter Safran and Gunn himself, “Superman” boasts a high-caliber behind-the-scenes team. This includes cinematographer Henry Braham, production designer Beth Mickle, costume designer Judianna Makovsky, and composers John Murphy and David Fleming, with editing by William Hoy and Craig Alpert.
Presented by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, “Superman” is the first film to emerge from DC’s revitalized storytelling universe, and if the trailer is any indication, it’s a daring new flight path for the Man of Steel.
