Re: Request for Urgent Meeting Regarding Public Safety in Inglewood
Dear Mr. Ballmer,
As a Los Angeles Clippers season ticket holder and on behalf of a coalition of civil rights and community organizations, I write to both commend your leadership and urgently appeal to you regarding a critical public safety issue in Inglewood.
Your investment in the Intuit Dome represents a transformative commitment to the city and its future. Combined with your philanthropy through the Ballmer Group, your impact reflects a clear dedication to community well-being.
It is in that spirit that we ask for your leadership regarding the recent death of Bryan Bostic, an African American man who died in the custody of the Inglewood Police Department following a routine traffic stop. Mr. Bostic was a father, son, and brother, and his death has raised serious concerns about accountability and public safety.
We are also deeply concerned by the continued absence of body-worn cameras for Inglewood police officers, as well as the lack of an active Police Oversight Commission, which has not convened in nearly nine years. These gaps in accountability contribute to growing distrust within the community.
This issue extends beyond residents. It directly affects the safety and confidence of the millions of fans, families, and visitors who attend events at the Intuit Dome and surrounding venues. Public safety in Inglewood is essential to the long-term success and integrity of these investments.
Our coalition is calling for:
- Immediate implementation of body-worn cameras for all Inglewood police officers
- Restoration of a fully independent and active Police Oversight Commission
We are also prepared to move forward with a public awareness campaign to ensure visitors are informed about ongoing safety concerns in the area.
We respectfully request a meeting with you at your earliest convenience to discuss how your leadership and voice can help advance meaningful solutions. Your influence can play a vital role in ensuring accountability, restoring trust, and preventing future tragedies.
We are committed to ensuring that what happened to Bryan Bostic does not happen again—to any resident or visitor.
We can be reached directly at (323) 275-8219 or [email protected].
Sincerely,
Najee Ali
