*Snoop Dogg has stirred controversy within the LGBTQ+ community after expressing unease about taking his grandchildren to see Disney’s 2022 animated film “Lightyear,” which features a same-sex couple.
As The Hill reports, during an appearance on the “It’s Giving” podcast, the rapper recounted his grandson’s confusion over a scene of a same-sex couple sharing a kiss. “Oh s‑‑‑, I didn’t come in for this s‑‑‑. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” Snoop recalled thinking. “It f‑‑‑ed me up. I’m, like, scared to go to the movies now. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s‑‑‑ that I don’t have an answer for.”
He added, “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
The remarks drew criticism from activist and media personality TS Madison, who addressed the issue on TMZ Live. “Snoop is part of the problem,” she said, arguing that his comments perpetuate harmful stigmas around LGBTQ+ representation, particularly in media for younger audiences.
The scene at the center of the debate, part of a montage in the “Toy Story” prequel, prompted international backlash, with countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates banning the film after Disney refused to remove the couple’s relationship.

“We’re not going to cut out anything, especially something as important as the loving and inspirational relationship that shows Buzz what he’s missing by the choices that he’s making, so that’s not getting cut,” producer Galyn Susman told Reuters at the film’s London premiere.
Chris Evans, who voices Buzz Lightyear, also weighed in during a 2022 Variety interview, expressing frustration over the controversy. “The goal is that we can get to a point where it is the norm, and that this doesn’t have to be some uncharted waters — that eventually this is just the way it is,” he said. “That representation across the board is how we make films.”
Snoop Dogg’s comments have intensified discussions about the role of LGBTQ+ representation in family-oriented films and the challenges of navigating inclusivity in mainstream media.
