Her appearance is expected to be one of the featured literary events of the day, bringing together readers, culture enthusiasts, and community members for a conversation centered on Black identity, history, and representation in contemporary culture.

AfroCentric Style Explores the Stories Behind Black Culture
Published by HarperCollins Amistad, “AfroCentric Style” examines the people, movements, and cultural influences that have helped shape Black identity and expression in popular culture.
The book moves beyond social media trends and viral conversations to uncover the deeper stories informing Black history, style, creativity, and self-expression. Through cultural analysis and historical context, Neal explores how Black identity has influenced entertainment, fashion, music, media, and public discourse.
At a time when conversations about representation and cultural heritage continue to evolve, “AfroCentric Style” seeks to provide readers with a broader understanding of the roots and significance of Black cultural expression.
Neal has described the project as an effort to amplify stories that often go untold, whether in news coverage, social media discussions, or traditional history books.
A Journalist Focused On Black Identity And Global Culture
Neal brings decades of experience as a journalist, author, and TV/film producer whose work has consistently centered on pop culture, Africa, and Black identity.
Throughout her career, she has explored the connections between culture, history, and contemporary life, helping audiences understand how Black experiences and perspectives shape broader conversations around the world.
That focus is reflected throughout “AfroCentric Style,” which draws from Neal’s longstanding interest in examining the cultural narratives that influence how Black communities are seen, understood, and celebrated.
Her June Jubilee appearance will offer attendees a chance to hear directly from the author about the inspiration behind the book and the research that informed its creation.
