*The mother of a Milwaukee Wisconsin Black teen who was murdered after a date with a white man is speaking out on the tragedy as she seeks justice and reform for what took place.
Citing an interview published Feb. 25, Madame Noire detailed Sheena Scarbrough’s thoughts on the death of her daughter Sade Robinson. The 19-year-old Concordia University student went on a date with 20-year-old Maxwell Anderson on April 1, 2024, before she was reported missing afterward.
On April 2, 2024, Robinson’s severed leg was discovered by investigators on the beach at Warnimont Park after a passerby noticed it. The student’s vehicle, which had “extreme fire damage,” was also found by investigators as well as several other body parts, which turned up scattered in the surrounding area a few days after.
“Trauma. Shock. I can’t believe what’s going on. This is a waking nightmare,” Scarbrough told WISN 12, reflecting on how she has been feeling since her daughter’s death. Court documents obtained by the network highlight Robinson’s foot being found near 30th and Galena, just a few blocks from where her burned-out car was located.
Surveillance footage obtained by Fox 6 Now on Feb. 10 contain more details surrounding Robinson’s outing with Anderson. The pair are shown sitting at a bar and restaurant in Menomonee Valley. Prior to leaving together, they were seen sitting at the bar. Court documents reveal that Anderson and Robinson went to a bar on Water Street later that night, on April 1.

Scarbrough never heard from her daughter after that day, Madame Noire noted, adding that surveillance footage captured a man, believed to be Anderson, walking away from the area. He was later seen boarding a bus back to his home on the city’s south side.
A search of Anderson’s residence from authorities, court documents show, brought to light swabs of stains and women’s clothing found, some of which were hidden in the basement.
As she copes with the loss of her offspring, Scarbrough is making her intent known to spare other families the pain of what she is going through. She is currently working with Senator LaTonya Johnson and Representative Sheila Stubbs to advocate for a statewide task force focused on missing and murdered African American women and girls.
“Sade is speaking to me, and she wants us to be able to help others,” Scarbrough said. “Listen to the stories of individuals like myself and what I’ve had to go through. And what many other individuals in the BIPOC community have to go through — and how strongly this is needed.”
Modeled after one within the Department of Justice that addresses missing and murdered Indigenous women, the proposed task force is meant to working with a goal to examine the systemic factors that contribute to violence against Black women and girls. Although a bill to create the task force was passed by the state Assembly in February 2024, it did not receive a vote in the Senate. Under the proposed bill, the task force would consist of 17 members, including state legislators and representatives from law enforcement, legal organizations, and groups providing services to Black women and girls.
Not leaving the search for Robinson to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) stalled, Scarbrough, along with family and friends, took matters into their own hands in searching for her child across Milwaukee County.
From their efforts, Robinson’s abandoned blanket was discovered in a wooded area near 31st and Galena, according to WISN 12. Officials revealed during an April 12 press conference that MPD returned to the scene, finding “additional human remains,”
News of the task force’s creation comes amid a critical time, with high homicide rates among Black women in Wisconsin. Scarbrough, the revelation is troubling, considering findings from a 2024 study, which spanned between 2019 and 2022 to reveal that Black women aged 25–44 years were 20 times more likely to die by homicide than white women.
Anderson has pleaded not guilty to charges that include first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse and arson for his alleged role in her death. Anderson, who appeared in Milwaukee County court on Feb. 10, is on a $5 million bail. He is due in court for the trial in May.
