*A new trailer for “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man” signals the return of Tommy Shelby — but not the commanding figure viewers once knew. Cillian Murphy reprises his role as the Birmingham crime boss years after the events of “Peaky Blinders,” and time has clearly taken its toll.
“When we meet him, he’s as broken as he has been,” Murphy told Netflix. “He’s just medicating and living in this purgatory that he’s created for himself in this big old house. He’s in this liminal space, not really living, he’s not really dead. He’s ignoring the world, he’s ignoring his family.”
Family, however, remains central to the story. Duke Shelby — Tommy’s illegitimate son, introduced in Season 6 — now stands poised to inherit his father’s criminal legacy. In the film, Duke is portrayed by Barry Keoghan, stepping into a leadership role within the Peaky Blinders as Europe edges closer to another global conflict.

A new political threat also emerges in the form of Beckett, a British Fascist sympathizer played by Tim Roth. “Fascism comes at you in many disguises, as we know,” Roth said. “He’s very reasonable. Which I thought would make him a more terrifying prospect, when I brought out the other guy.”
Tommy’s past opposition to fascism looms large, as he previously worked to undermine the British Union of Fascists from within. Now, with war looming and his estranged son vulnerable to dangerous influences, circumstances may force him out of isolation.
The trailer offers glimpses of Shelby reclaiming familiar territory in Birmingham.
“Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man” arrives in select theaters March 6 before streaming March 20 on Netflix. Watch the trailer above.
