*Paris Jackson has publicly disputed claims by actor Colman Domingo regarding her role in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael,” set for release on April 24, 2026.
Domingo, who portrays Joe Jackson, told PEOPLE at the amfAR benefit gala that Paris and her brother Prince were “very much in support of our film.” He added, “I’m excited to be here at amfAR tonight with Paris. It feels like a nice way for us to be together.” However, Paris took to Instagram, stating she had “0% involvement” in the project and described Domingo’s comments as inaccurate, according to TMZ.

According to Paris, she reviewed an early script draft and offered notes on parts she deemed inaccurate, but the studio did not incorporate her feedback, prompting her to step away. She wrote, “not my monkeys not my circus. godbless and god speed.”
The biopic, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the pop icon, has faced multiple challenges, including a delay from its original April 2025 release to October 2025, and now to April 2026, per Deadline.
Domingo previously expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I’m excited to be a part of a film that explores both the complicated soul of the legendary Michael Jackson as well as his impact on music and culture as a global icon.” He also praised Jaafar’s performance, noting, “There is something divine about the way that Jaafar is channeling his late uncle. His talent and embodiment of Michael’s essence is simply on another level.” Domingo emphasized his goal to portray a “complex version of Joe Jackson,” saying, “I want to find their humanity, I want to find their heart and their humor.”
The film’s production encountered legal obstacles due to a 1993 settlement with Jordan Chandler, who accused Michael Jackson of molestation, which included a clause barring depiction of the Chandlers in any film. A source close to the production clarified to PEOPLE, “The Michael Jackson biopic is not in total chaos. The inflammatory headlines about the moving halting are simply not true.” Reshoots were scheduled to address these issues, and principal photography wrapped in May 2024 under producer Graham King’s GK Films.
“Michael” aims to depict the triumphs and struggles of the late singer, who died in 2009, focusing on his creative genius and personal challenges. Domingo highlighted the Jackson family’s broader influence, stating, “We would not have any of this music that we used to have great memories about, the moments, the big moments, that we all share, because of the Jackson family.”
