*Oura is broadening its focus on health monitoring with the introduction of new features aimed at helping users spot potential wellness concerns before they become larger issues, The Seattle Times reports.
Central to the update is a new tool called Health Radar, which evaluates long term patterns related to blood pressure and breathing during sleep. The company said the feature can help identify possible signs associated with hypertension and sleep apnea, though it is intended to encourage conversations with healthcare professionals rather than provide medical diagnoses.
“We think of ourselves as a healthcare company, not a tech company,” CEO Tom Hale said.

The company is also expanding the amount of personal health information users can bring into its platform. Blood test results, medication histories, allergy information and other health records can now be uploaded to provide additional context alongside biometric data collected by the ring. Oura has also partnered with Counsel Health, allowing users to ask health-related questions and connect with licensed physicians for an additional fee.
“Between your labs, health records, biometric data and these alerts, we’re actually able to deliver on this idea of the doctor in your pocket,” Hale said. “Because now all the context is there. What were your blood labs? What is your diagnosis? What medicines are you on? What medicines were you on? What is your biometric telling you right now?”
Oura has also introduced the Ring 5, a redesigned version of its flagship wearable. The company said the device is 40% smaller overall than the previous generation while still offering roughly a week of use between charges. Sensor placement inside the ring has also been adjusted to improve the collection of measurements such as heart rate and blood oxygen levels.
According to Hale, feedback on earlier models frequently centered on their size. “It’s going to be super hot. Everyone we’ve shown it to has been like, ‘holy cow,’” he said.
The Ring 5 hits the market on June 4. Pricing starts at $399 for silver and black finishes, while several premium options cost an additional $100.
