*The Obama Presidential Center will host its official dedication on Thursday, bringing together a wide range of performers. The event will livestream at 11 a.m. CT on Obama.org and the Obama Foundation’s social media platforms.
The foundation previously announced a lineup of performers expected to appear at the opening ceremony on June 18. The list includes Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, U2’s Bono and The Edge, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Eddie Vedder, Marc Anthony, Common, Tems, Marsai Martin, and The Roots, according to The Blast. The event marks the start of a series of festivities tied to the opening of the South Side campus on June 19.
“The Grand Opening Ceremony will reflect a spirit of inspiration and joy, with a big boost from the performers who are sharing their talent with us. We hope to inspire people everywhere to believe in their power to bring change home,” Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett said in a statement, per The Daily Beast.
The expected turnout of major entertainers underscores Obama’s continued ability to attract top-tier cultural figures to public events. The lineup contrasts with recent Trump-aligned events that have drawn fewer high-profile celebrities.
UFC CEO Dana White said he invited several high-profile guests to a recent White House UFC-related event. However, it ultimately featured a small roster of entertainers and tech executives.
Separately, a planned summer concert on the National Mall tied to Trump’s “Great American State Fair” was canceled after artists withdrew. Trump has since announced a Fourth of July rally on the National Mall marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The Obama Presidential Center’s opening events will continue through the weekend ahead of the museum’s full public opening.
