*The Nobel Prize Committee has spoken: Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner is not permitted to “share” her honor with U.S. Pres. Donald Trump. For Machado, actions spoke louder than words when she met with Pres. Trump at the White House on January 15. She gifted the framed medal to him.
Machado had publicly said she would like to share her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize with the U.S. leader, praising him for supporting her leadership in creating a democratic society in Venezuela. In a Fox News interview, she told Sean Hannity that her people want Trump to have the recognition as well.
“The Venezuelan people want to give it to him, share it with him,” she said.

But the Norwegian Nobel Institute issued a firm and unusually direct clarification: Once awarded, a Nobel Prize “cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others.” The committee added that the decision “is final and stands for all time,” closing the door on any formal attempt to give Trump co‑laureate status or transfer the award in any symbolic or procedural way.
The ruling underscores a long‑standing principle of the Nobel Foundation:
- A Peace Prize belongs solely to the individual or organization named.
- It cannot be reassigned, gifted, or retroactively shared — even at the laureate’s request.
Machado has not withdrawn her praise for Trump, but the Nobel Committee’s statement makes clear that the prize remains hers alone, regardless of political sentiment or diplomatic gratitude.

After the capture of Maduro, attention on sharing the Nobel Prize resumed with the same motivation.
Machado’s praise for Trump was tied to other things:
- His intervention in Venezuela,
- His support for the opposition,
- And his backing of her leadership against Maduro’s regime.
The Nobel Committee’s rejection was simply about the rules — not her motives. Their staunch position is a reflection of the prestige associated with the honor.
