*A British organization based in London called the Charity Commission for England and Wales has officially disqualified supermodel Naomi Campbell and several associates from serving as charity trustees following an investigation into the mismanagement of funds at her charity, “Fashion for Relief.”
The inquiry, which has been ongoing since 2021, revealed alarming financial discrepancies and resulted in the charity’s dissolution in March 2023.
“Fashion for Relief,” established by Campbell in 2005, was designed to raise funds for causes that support health, education, and poverty alleviation. Unfortunately, the investigation uncovered that, from April 2016 to July 2022, a mere 8.5 percent of the charity’s expenditure was allocated towards charitable grants. In stark contrast, funds were reportedly spent on luxury hotel accommodations, spa treatments, and personal security for Campbell herself.
As chairperson, Campbell faces a five-year disqualification, while directors Bianka Hellmich and Veronica Chou received nine and four-year disqualifications, respectively, due to “multiple instances of misconduct or mismanagement.” Hellmich had volunteered to repay funds for consultancy services, indicating serious infractions regarding proper financial management.

In response to the investigation, the Charity Commission managed to recover a total of £344,000 ($461,400), with an additional £98,000 ($131,445) rescued for charitable purposes. The funds have since been allocated to organizations that were initially supported by “Fashion for Relief.”
Amidst these troubling developments, Campbell celebrated an unrelated honor in Paris, receiving the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government just as her disqualification became public, according to Womens Waer Daily/WWD via Yahoo News.
Her charity, known for its star-studded fundraising events that attracted celebrities and royal family members alike, held an array of high-profile events from London to Cannes, bringing attention to causes such as the Time’s Up movement and the British Summer Floods of 2007.
While Campbell’s spokesperson has refrained from commenting on the disqualification, the impact of “Fashion for Relief’s” operative mishaps has sent ripples across both the charity sector and the fashion industry. The glamorous images, once synonymous with Campbell’s philanthropic efforts, are now overshadowed by troubling allegations of mismanagement, leaving many to question the sustainability and transparency of celebrity-led charitable initiatives.
The outcome of this investigation serves as a potent reminder of the importance of accountability in charitable work, urging other organizations to ensure rigorous financial oversight to protect their causes and supporters alike.
