*Michael Jackson’s music continues to resonate with audiences decades after it first debuted. From timeless classics like “I Want You Back” and “Beat It” to the iconic “Thriller” and “Man in the Mirror,” his catalog remains a cornerstone of pop and R&B history. Now, one of his legendary tracks is enjoying a resurgence on U.S. charts.
As Forbes reports, “Billie Jean” has debuted on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart this week, entering at No. 23 on the 25-spot ranking. Billboard’s list tracks the most popular R&B, hip-hop, and rap songs on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music throughout the United States.
This marks Jackson’s seventh entry on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, with only two of his tracks reaching the list during his lifetime. Billboard notes that streaming was not a medium in the ’90s when “They Don’t Care About Us” and “Why,” his collaboration with 3T, made the tally.
Jackson’s other entries have reached the top 10, including “Thriller,” which peaked at No. 3 and spent 12 weeks on the roster. Collaborations like “Love Never Felt So Good” with Justin Timberlake, “Slave to the Rhythm,” and “Don’t Matter to Me” featuring Drake also reached top 10 positions at Nos. 5, 6, and 8, respectively.
In addition to the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart, “Billie Jean” has returned to the R&B Streaming Songs list, reentering at No. 12. The track is also climbing on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., reaching Nos. 87 and 98, after recently appearing in the lower half of both charts
As Jackson’s music thrives, anticipation builds for “Michael,” a biopic set for release on April 24, 2026, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson. Despite production challenges, including reshoots prompted by a 1993 legal settlement, a source told PEOPLE, “The Michael Jackson biopic is not in total chaos.”
We reported earlier that the film’s production faced significant hurdles, including an initial cut exceeding three and a half hours. Legal issues also emerged from a 1993 settlement with Jordan Chandler, who accused Jackson of molestation at age 13. The $25 million settlement reportedly included a clause prohibiting any depiction of the Chandlers in a film. Although Jackson’s estate initially approved the script, this clause was overlooked, requiring reshoots to remove all Chandler references.
The biopic aims to explore the pop legend’s life, capturing “triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, captured by his most iconic performances.”
