*On Monday, August 26, renowned Atlanta rapper Lil Baby found himself behind bars after being arrested in Las Vegas for allegedly carrying a weapon without a permit. The rapper, whose real name is Dominique Jones, was in town to perform at NBA star James Harden’s birthday celebration.
Authorities took Lil Baby to the Clark County Detention Center where he was held on $5,000 bail. He has now been released, with footage of the arrest circulating online.
The sensational arrest was caught on camera and later obtained by TMZ. The clip shows the “Yes Indeed” hitmaker being detained outside the Encore Las Vegas hotel. In the footage, Lil Baby can be seen in handcuffs, shouting to someone in the distance, “I need 200 bands. Call this number for me,” and fervently asserting that he possessed a proper license to carry the firearm and should not have been arrested.
The unfolding drama took a twist on Tuesday, August 27, when Lil Baby’s attorneys, Drew Findling and David Chesnoff, issued a statement. They clarified, “To be clear, Dominique Jones has a valid Georgia Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit. On his behalf, we are actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding his arrest in Las Vegas.”
TMZ also reported that the authorities were compelled to the scene after video evidence reportedly showed the 29-year-old rapper being handed a firearm at the venue.

Despite this brush with the law, Lil Baby has had a promising year in other respects. In June, he was honored with the prestigious Songwriter of the Year award at the 2024 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. In addition to his accolades, Lil Baby has been prolific with guest appearances, contributing to various tracks including “ALL TEN” by Tay B, “FOREVER ROLLING” with Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, and “BAND4BAND” by Central Cee, solidifying his presence in the music industry in 2024.
As the investigation continues, fans and legal experts will be watching closely to see how Lil Baby’s case unfolds. The incident highlights the complexities artists face when traveling and performing across different states, each with its own set of regulations and legal requirements concerning firearms.
Many in the music community show their support for the rapper, hopeful that the claims made by his attorneys about the valid Georgia CCW Permit will lead to a favorable resolution for Lil Baby. Meanwhile, the artist remains committed to his craft, even as this legal issue garners headlines.
For now, Lil Baby’s focus likely shifts back to his music and upcoming performances, continuing a streak of successful collaborations and chart-topping hits that have defined his 2024. Fans and critics alike will be keenly observing how he navigates through this legal turbulence.
