*Sports commentator Jason Whitlock is attributing Jaden Ivey’s public implosion to how the 24-year-old was raised, following the Chicago Bulls’ decision to release the guard after a string of inflammatory Instagram videos.
According to SandraRose.com, Whitlock singled out what he called “single mama, baby mama culture that’s pervasive throughout Black culture” as the driving force behind Ivey’s current troubles.
The Bulls cut Ivey after footage emerged over the weekend showing him taking direct aim at the NBA’s Pride Month initiatives through a religious lens. “The world can proclaim LGBTQ, right? They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA. They proclaim it. They show it to the world. They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’ They proclaim it,” Ivey said.

His commentary stretched into additional areas, including biological assertions about lesbian couples having children and a claim that Catholicism is a “false religion” that “does not lead to salvation in Jesus Christ.” Beyond the videos, team sources indicated Ivey had made a habit of preaching to colleagues and staff.
Whitlock turned his attention to Ivey’s mother, Niele Ivey, who serves as head coach of Notre Dame’s women’s basketball program and previously played in the WNBA. He argued that her background exposed her son to what he characterized as a “degenerate” and “perverse” environment. Whitlock also accused ESPN of steering clear of the story entirely, saying “This young man has been poisoned, and this story is poison for ESPN.”
Though the Bulls cited “conduct detrimental to the team” as grounds for the move, Ivey walks away with his full $10.1 million salary intact, according to The Athletic. Meanwhile, sports journalist Sage Steele took to social media to challenge the league’s response, asking why Ivey was released rather than offered mental health resources the way other NBA players have been in the past.
Jaden Ivey’s background poisoned him. His mother played in the WNBA, and he was subject to its hypersexualized culture. Now he is looking for answers in an environment that wants to promote all things that traumatized him as a kid. pic.twitter.com/RxrFs5VIL0
