*Weight loss is no stranger to folks making resolutions in 2025. The kicker is how people get from point A to point B. Thanks to a new survey, that answer is a far cry from traditional means.
Citing the polling, the New York Post mentioned that Gen Z are the leaders in opting for weight loss medications to shed pounds instead of the traditional exercises and healthy diet.
Specifically speaking, the New York Post reports many young Americans are planning to go with using weight loss medicines like Ozempic and Wegovy to reach the weight loss finish line.
Referencing Tebra, a digital healthcare platform, the Post revealed more results from the survey. Among the findings were:
– Gen Z is leading the way, with 37% planning to give up the gym for the pharmacy to use GLP-1 medications to achieve their weight loss goals in the upcoming year.
Along with the generation gaps came a noticeable difference between all genders as to their respective roads to losing weight. According to the survey, women are more likely than men to choose weight loss drugs, with 30% of them stating they will rely on the drugs, as opposed to 20% of men saying they’ll do the same thing.
In addition, women have more in mind when trying to lose weight. The Post noted females have a bigger goal with also having higher weight loss targets, aiming to lose an average of 23 pounds vs. men who plan to lose 19 pounds.
Taking note of the disparity Gallup admitted that it was no surprise that women have consistently been more likely than men to say they are heavier since 1999, which added that women get judged more regarding their bodies than men.
Although interest in losing weight is high, the reality is that many Americans are unable to buy the medicines due to their high cost. Sixty-four percent of the people who want to use the medications take heed to the cost as their biggest concern, followed by worries about side effects (59%), the Post reports.

As if these weren’t enough. It now comes out that despite the cost factor and potential fatalities, 86% of the people surveyed believe the benefits outweigh the liabilities. As a result, 66% of Americans now believe these medications are more effective than traditional weight loss methods like diet and exercise.
As for other generations, baby boomers are the ones most convinced that the medications work better than traditional options, as evidenced by the 72% showing. Closely following that fact is Gen X at t 70%
Getting real, to fill that void left by expensive medicine, the possibility exists of people obtaining counterfeit versions of what they need and using that resource without guidance from a medical professional.
The bottom line is worries about addiction and proper medical guidance remain significant barriers to widespread adoption, the Post reports.
