*IShowSpeed is opening up about what his recent trip to Africa meant to him and how life in front of a constant livestream has forced him to rethink personal boundaries. Speaking during an interview with Revolt, the global streamer reflected on heritage, visibility, and the lessons that come with broadcasting so much of his life in real time.
A major moment during his travels came when he received a passport from Ghana, a country tied to his family roots. “It was a weird feeling because my mom is Ghanaian, even though she wasn’t born there,” he said. “It just felt like I was going back and claiming it, and to see how they showed love [to] me coming back opened my eyes as they welcomed me with open arms and even gave me a passport. It was crazy.”
While streaming throughout the continent, he said his goal was simple: capture what was genuinely in front of him. “My intention was to show the city, and that’s just what it is there. I wasn’t trying to be picky and choosy,” he explained. “It was beautiful, and Africa is truly beautiful.”
At the same time, years of livestreaming have reshaped how he thinks about privacy. “As a streamer, you have to throw away the boundaries that you set on people because you’re filming live,” he said. That constant exposure led to a realization. “I’ve learned that there’s a line you need to draw, and some things are personal or not meant to be online, so I will say I did learn that being in this streaming world.”
The pressure to remain “on” for millions can also take a toll. Recalling moments of exhaustion, he admitted, “There’s been a lot of times, even before streaming, where I’ve been like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so tired, and I’ve blogged almost every day.’” Still, he pushes forward: “You just have to push through it — once I’m in the mode, I’m not tired anymore, and you have to push through it.”
Through travel and trial, IShowSpeed says he is learning how to balance openness with discernment — sharing his world while protecting parts of it.
