*Several prominent historically Black college and university marching bands are celebrating the legacy of Michael Jackson through special performances inspired by the upcoming biographical film “MICHAEL.”
Florida A&M University’s Marching “100,” Southern University’s Human Jukebox, and Jackson State University’s Sonic Boom of the South recently delivered musical tributes highlighting the pop star’s influence, Black Enterprise reports. The performances are connected to the “MICHAEL” X HBCU Marching Bands Initiative, which brings together well-known collegiate bands as part of promotional efforts surrounding the film’s release. The project highlights the longstanding relationship between Jackson’s music and the traditions of HBCU band culture.
Lionsgate’s said the initiative demonstrates how Jackson’s legacy “continues to resonate with HBCU communities.”

Florida A&M’s Marching “100” performed Jackson’s hit “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” during its tribute. University president Marva B. Johnson said the recognition reflects a “shared tradition of excellence.” Honoring Jackson’s work is nothing new for the Marching “100.” Over the years, the band’s routines have featured songs including “Heal the World,” “Never Can Say Goodbye,” and “I’ll Be There.”
Jackson State’s Sonic Boom of the South has also paid tribute to Jackson through arrangements of “Dirty Diana,” “I Can’t Help It,” and “P.Y.T.” Southern University’s Human Jukebox has likewise incorporated Jackson’s catalog into its performances, including versions of “Liberian Girl,” “Thriller,” and “Blood on the Dance Floor.”
