*Filmmaker Josh Webber is escalating his legal battle against Dame Dash, alleging the music mogul is scheming to evade an $800,000 court judgment. Webber, who won a defamation lawsuit against Dash in April 2022 over disputes involving the film “Dear Frank,” claims Dash is collaborating with his girlfriend, Raquel Horn, to shield his assets from seizure.
As Complex reports, in a court filing on August 18, Webber accused Dash of “noncompliance” and “willful deceptiveness” by merging and renaming his businesses. LLC records presented by Webber allegedly show Dash and Horn restructuring his companies to keep assets out of reach. This follows a June court order requiring Dash to surrender films, music, and other assets for auction to settle the debt.
Dash recently surrendered two films, but these only partially covered the judgment. The ongoing dispute stems from Dash’s public claims that Webber “robbed” him of ownership and credit for “Dear Frank,” statements that Webber said harmed his reputation and led to threats against him.
In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Dash appeared to confirm his cautious approach to asset ownership. “I run my family office. I don’t own it. My family owns it,” he said. “I don’t have too much in my name. So the things that are in my name are things that I don’t even know that exist, that don’t make money. They’re from years ago.”
Webber’s accusations align with Dash’s history of financial struggles. In a 2023 interview on The CEO Show, Dash described himself as “proud broke,” explaining his challenges meeting financial obligations.
“While I’m investing in something else, I might not be making the money and the profit, so I can’t afford to pay out what I was when I was having EBITA of $8 million a year,” he said. He also referenced starting a new company “from scratch without any money,” adding, “I can’t pay out three or four hundred thousand a year in child support, ‘cause I ain’t making that.”
Dash’s financial woes have been well-documented. In 2019, he faced arrest for owing $950,000 in back child support to Rachel Roy and Cindy Morales, claiming he earned only $56,000 in 2018 compared to Roy’s $500,000. Despite denying reports of being broke, Dash admitted to past struggles but insisted his debts were resolved post-arrest.
Meanwhile, Webber continues to pursue the full judgment, alleging Dash’s maneuvers are a deliberate attempt to obstruct justice.
